Tamsui Monument and Old Street
Tamsui is a smaller city to the north of Taipei that was the center of shipping and commerce in northern Taiwan in the 19th century. The city is still popular with visitors from Taipei and boasts many historical attractions, and is a popular location for viewing the sunset.
Shalun is a very wide, sandy beach, that is usually completely free of visitors. That being said, it is a great place to sunbathe as well as play beach sports on the wide, flat expanse. From time to time, people will hold parties and do activities like horseback riding along the beach.
