Back to the Early 20th Century of Taipei

Tamsui River, one of the most important rivers in Taipei, gave birth to the life of early Taipei citizen. Dadaocheng and Dihua Street, both located beside Tamsui river, got more and more prosperous after Tamsui Harbor was open in the late 18 century. With well-preserved luxury Baroque style architectures, traditional Taiwanese style tea stores and Chinese herbal pharmacy, Dihua Street is a wonderful place for you to get to know the history of Taiwan's economic development process.

Dihua Street

A walk through the Dihua Street Area gives visitors a feel of Taipei City’s past. The old-town market has scores of shops selling a variety of traditional goods such as Chinese medicines and herbs, temple icons and incense, spices and dried food, colorful bolts of cloth, and bamboo and wooden crafts.

Tamsui Monument and Old Street

Tamsui is a smaller city to the north of Taipei that was the center of shipping and commerce in northern Taiwan in the 19th century. The city is still popular with visitors from Taipei and boasts many historical attractions, and is a popular location for viewing the sunset.

Shalun Beach

Shalun is a very wide, sandy beach, that is usually completely free of visitors. That being said, it is a great place to sunbathe as well as play beach sports on the wide, flat expanse. From time to time, people will hold parties and do activities like horseback riding along the beach.
